Privacy Policy — Gamepad Tester

This Privacy Policy explains what information Gamepad Tester collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can control your data. We are committed to being fully transparent about our data practices — most of which involve collecting very little data at all.

Effective: April 2026
Applies to: gamepadtester.co.uk & all subdomains
Compliant: GDPR · CCPA · COPPA

Plain-English Summary: Our testing tools (Gamepad Tester, Mouse Test, CPS Test, Key Rollover) collect zero data from you — everything runs locally in your browser. We collect limited data only when you voluntarily contact us or when third-party analytics tools record anonymised page visit data. We do not sell your data. We never have and never will.

1
Who We Are

2

Information You Give Us Directly

We only receive personal information that you actively provide to us — for example, when you contact us via email or our contact form. In that case, we receive your name, email address, and the content of your message. We never ask for sensitive personal data such as payment card details, social security numbers, or government identification.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, our servers automatically receive certain technical information when your browser connects to our Site. This includes your IP address (used only for security and abuse prevention), the browser and operating system you are using, the referring URL, and timestamps of your visit. This information is used in aggregate form for technical purposes and is not used to identify individual users.

3
How Our Tools Handle Data

This section is the most important for most of our users. Our hardware testing tools — Gamepad Tester, Controller Test, Mouse Test, Click Speed Test, and Key Rollover Test — are built on a strict privacy-by-design principle:

✓ All tool processing happens entirely within your browser. No controller button presses, stick movements, trigger values, mouse clicks, key presses, or CPS scores are transmitted to our servers at any point — not during the test, not after, not ever.

Gamepad Tester & Controller Test

These tools use the W3C Gamepad API, which is a browser-native API that reads controller input data locally. The API is read-only — it cannot write to your controller or access any other part of your system. All button states, axis values, and vibration commands are processed entirely in JavaScript running in your browser tab. When you close the tab or refresh the page, all session data is immediately discarded.

Mouse Test & CPS Test

Mouse click events, scroll events, and pointer coordinates are captured using standard browser DOM event listeners that operate entirely client-side. The click count, CPS score, session history, and event log exist only in your browser's JavaScript memory for the duration of your session. Nothing is sent to a server.

Key Rollover Test

Key press and key release events are captured using the browser's keyboard event API, which operates locally. No keystroke data, key combinations, or timing information is transmitted externally. The tester cannot and does not log what you type — it only counts simultaneous key presses for the purpose of measuring rollover.

Technical note: Our tools do not use WebSockets, Fetch API calls to our servers, XMLHttpRequests, or any other mechanism to transmit input data externally. You can verify this using your browser's developer tools — no network requests are made to our servers during tool use.

4
How We Use Information

The limited information we do collect is used only for the following purposes:

  • Responding to enquiries: When you contact us, we use your name and email to respond to your message. We do not use contact form submissions for marketing without your explicit consent.
  • Site operation and security: Server log data (including IP addresses) is used to detect and prevent abuse, protect against malicious activity, and maintain the security and integrity of our Site.
  • Analytics and improvement: Anonymised, aggregated analytics data helps us understand which tools are most used, how visitors navigate the Site, and where technical issues may arise — enabling us to improve the platform.
  • Legal compliance: We may process data as required to comply with applicable laws, regulations, or valid legal process.
  • Service communications: If you have provided your email address in connection with a support request, we may follow up on that request. We do not send unsolicited marketing emails.

ℹ️ We do not use your data for targeted advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose beyond those listed above. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.

5

7
Sharing & Disclosure of Information

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. Full stop. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We may share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating our Site (such as hosting and analytics providers), subject to confidentiality obligations. These providers may only use your data to provide services to us and not for their own purposes.
  • Legal obligations: We may disclose information when required to do so by law, court order, subpoena, or other valid legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, or investigate fraud.
  • Business transfers: If Gamepad Tester is involved in a merger, acquisition, asset sale, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  • With your consent: We may share information for any other purpose with your explicit prior consent.

✓ We have never sold personal data and we have no plans to do so. Our business model is based on advertising and affiliate commissions, not data monetisation.

8
Data Retention

We retain different types of data for different periods based on their purpose and applicable legal requirements:

Data Type Retention Period Reason
Tool input data (controller, mouse, keyboard) Never stored Processed locally only — discarded on page close
Contact form submissions Up to 2 years To maintain a record of support interactions

9
Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. We honour these rights regardless of your location, to the extent technically feasible:

👁
Right to Access
You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including how it is being used.
✏️
Right to Rectification
You can request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data we hold about you.
🗑
Right to Erasure
You can request deletion of your personal data where we have no legitimate reason to continue processing it.
Right to Restriction
You can request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances, such as while you contest its accuracy.
📦
Right to Portability
Where technically feasible, you can request your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
🚫
Right to Object
You can object to processing of your personal data for direct marketing, profiling, or where we rely on legitimate interests as our legal basis.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at gamepadtester.co@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request." We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. In the EU, contact your national data protection authority.

10
Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Gamepad Tester's tools are designed to be appropriate for users of all ages. Our Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.

In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), if we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.

Because our tools process all data locally in the browser and do not collect input data, there is no risk of unintentional data collection from children using our hardware testing tools. The only personal data we could receive from a minor would be if they submitted their contact information voluntarily through our contact form — which would require parental supervision for children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at gamepadtester.co@gmail.com and we will take prompt action to delete that information.

11
GDPR & European Economic Area (EEA) Users

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or equivalent legislation applies to your personal data. This section provides additional information relevant to those users.

Legal Basis for Processing

Where we process personal data, we do so under one of the following legal bases:

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): For analytics cookies and optional data collection, where you have given your consent.
  • Contractual necessity (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): To respond to enquiries submitted via our contact form.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): Where processing is required to comply with applicable law.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): For security monitoring and technical Site operation, where our interests are not overridden by your rights.

International Transfers

Gamepad Tester is based in the United States. If you are located in the EEA or UK, your personal data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where such transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or we rely on adequacy decisions where applicable.

Right to Withdraw Consent

Where we rely on your consent as the legal basis for processing, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. To withdraw consent for analytics cookies, adjust your browser cookie settings or use the opt-out tools referenced in Section 5.

ℹ️ Our Data Protection Representative for EEA/UK purposes can be reached at gamepadtester.co@gmail.com with the subject line "GDPR Enquiry."

12
CCPA & California Residents

If you are a resident of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information.

Categories of Personal Information We Collect

In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information (as defined by the CCPA):

  • Identifiers: Name and email address (only when you contact us voluntarily)
  • Internet or network activity: IP address, browser type, pages visited (collected automatically via server logs and analytics)
  • Inferences: General location derived from IP address (country/region level only)

We Do Not Sell Personal Information

Gamepad Tester does not sell personal information to third parties and has not done so in the preceding 12 months. California residents therefore have no need to exercise an "opt-out of sale" right in relation to our Site. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Your California Rights

  • Right to Know: The right to request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, and how it has been used and shared.
  • Right to Delete: The right to request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: The right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights. We do not charge different prices, provide different levels of service, or deny access based on whether you exercise your privacy rights.

To exercise your California privacy rights, contact us at gamepadtester.co@gmail.com with the subject line "California Privacy Rights Request." We will respond within 45 days as required by the CCPA.

13
Security

We take the security of any data we hold seriously and implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers
  • Access controls limiting who within our organisation can access contact submissions
  • Regular review of our data practices and security procedures
  • Prompt deletion of data when it is no longer needed

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we use commercially reasonable measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

Given that our tools do not transmit input data to our servers, the security risk from using our testing tools is minimal. The security measures described above apply primarily to contact form submissions and server log data.

14
Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data practices, applicable law, or our Services. We will post any updated Privacy Policy on this page with a revised effective date at the top.

For material changes — those that significantly affect your rights or how we use your data — we will provide more prominent notice, such as a banner on the Site or an email to users who have provided contact information. Where required by law, we will obtain your consent before implementing material changes.

Your continued use of our Site after the effective date of any updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you should stop using the Site.

We recommend bookmarking this page and reviewing it periodically. The effective date at the top of this page is always updated when changes are made, so you can easily determine whether the policy has changed since you last read it.

15
Contact Us

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us. We take all privacy enquiries seriously and will respond within 30 days.
